Lossless & Lossy JPG to JPEG XL Conversion
JPEG XL was specifically designed for seamless migration from legacy JPEG files. By default, our JPG to JXL converter uses libjxl lossless JPEG bitstream transcoding—repacking your existing 8×8 DCT coefficients with modern entropy coding so the resulting .jxl file is ~16–22% smaller and can be reconstructed back to the exact original .jpg byte-for-byte.
100% Local Privacy
Powered by WebAssembly (`libjxl`). Your images are processed inside your browser tab and never uploaded to any cloud server.
Reversible JPEG Recompression
Losslessly transcode existing `.jpg` files into `.jxl` (~20% smaller) and reconstruct the exact bit-for-bit `.jpg` whenever needed.
Batch & ZIP Archive Workflow
Drop dozens of images or a `.zip` archive at once. Download converted files individually or bundled in a single `.zip`.
Animation & Alpha Support
Full support for multi-frame animations and alpha transparency across JXL, APNG, GIF, WebP, and AVIF.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does lossless JPG to JXL lose any image quality?
Zero quality is lost when "Lossless JPEG Bitstream Recompression" is enabled. It preserves the exact mathematical DCT coefficients of your JPEG and can be reversed back to the identical .jpg file.
When should I uncheck Lossless JPEG Recompression?
If you want maximum file size reduction (40–65% smaller) and do not need bit-exact JPEG reconstruction, uncheck "Lossless JPEG Recompression" so libjxl encodes from pixels using its VarDCT psychovisual engine.
Can I batch convert a folder of JPEGs?
Yes! Select multiple .jpg files or drop a .zip archive containing your photos, then click "Download All (.ZIP)" once conversion finishes.
